My name is Yonten and this is the story of how I touched the lion's heart

It all began when I became ill with a stress related health condition in my late twenties. The underlying cause was early developmental trauma which significantly impacted my ability to communicate, process emotions and respond rather than react to life and other people.  As a result my work life suffered and I found it hard to maintain healthy relationships .

When Western medicine failed, I connected with Indigenous teachings, ceremonies and spiritual practices from older cultures around the world. That education helped me to discover my own innate wellness and put me in touch with the boundless potential of the human spirit.

Through it I met new people with different perspectives and gradually my road to recovery came into view.  For the first time in years I started to feel calmer and happier. My thinking became deeper and clearer and slowly I began to understand myself better.

I’ve been on that learning path now for over twenty years and it has been super generous. It has shown me the cause and treatment for all kinds of emotional and psychological imbalance. Some of that info has come through ceremony and some direct from the amazing Indigenous elders and their mature students who I’ve been lucky enough to work and learn with along the way.

Talking and listening circles have played a big part in helping me accept and navigate the times when I become derailed, drained and out of balance. That frees up more energy and focus for creating positive relationships and experiences for myself and now  other people too.

For the past three years circles have kept me on the path of wellness through conscious feeling and thinking. They've helped me to recognise, voice and accept negative states of fear, anger, disappointment and sadness rather than ignore them or bury them deep inside myself.

The thing that I’m most grateful for is that my own struggles have now become meaningful. Without them this talking and listening ceremony would never have materialized but here it is; a simple ceremony offering men a gateway to begin their process of living a happier, healthier life by getting in touch with their real and true self.

But don’t take my word for it. Come to the next event and find out for yourself! I can’t guarantee what will happen for you but I know there’s a welcome and a place waiting for you there around the fire with the rest of us so that you can find meaning, self acceptance and understanding in your own life too.
